Each day, United States Cold Storage (USCS) strives to meet the needs of their customers by providing a one-stop shop for cold storage, export, and transportation services. As their customer’s businesses have grown, the need for more cold storage has also increased. As a result, USCS is undergoing a major expansion, the first one in almost five years.
“Our goal is to keep up with the growth of our customers and making sure that no one is turned away,” said Rod Noll, Senior Vice President of the Western Region. The expansion will add an additional 210,630 square feet cold storage warehouse to its already 500,000 square feet. Noll said that their facility has been operating at full capacity for the last four years, noting that they are able to share space amongst other regional facilities.
USCS currently employs over 100 people at its Fresno location and will add 35 new positions once the expansion is complete in August. The company prides itself on promoting from within. “With company growth, there is an opportunity for current employees to advance,” said General Manager Kristoffer Sali, who oversees the day-to-day operations. “We have the best people and the best facilities,” Sali said. Noll echoed that by saying, “We have great facilities, but we would be nothing without the people.”
Once construction is completed in August, Fresno’s USCS plant will be the company’s largest facility and one of the largest cold storages in the country. This additional space will allow USCS to better serve many of their agricultural customers better. Over 90 percent of the products stored and transported from the Fresno location come from a 40-mile radius.
The company is able to store a wide variety of agricultural products – including fruit, poultry, dairy, frozen foods, various juice concentrate, nuts and many other goods-all while making sure food safety is a top priority. USCS has the technology in place to trace all of their products in the event that a food safety outbreak takes place. “A lot of people don’t know what we do. We are more than just a cold storage; we help our customers grow their businesses. USCS serves many different communities,” Noll said.
USCS is very supportive of the local communities where their facilities are located, and they strongly encourage that their employees are also involved in philanthropic efforts that are important to them. USCS is a proud sponsor of the Fresno Food Expo and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Central Valley.

FCFB is a great voice for agriculture and for our customers,” Noll said.
Moving forward as the expansion construction wraps up, USCS’s goal is to continue to lead the frozen and refrigerated food industry to help their customers have a competitive edge to succeed in their businesses. “This expansion will allow us to serve our customers better,” Sali said.
